Birth Control

Birth control serves as a way to prevent pregnancy. These services do not require parental consent for our adolescents patients.

There are many different types of birth control depending on your needs. Understanding these birth control options helps you decide which option is best for you.

The Eastern Iowa Health Center Women’s Health Clinic provides information, education and supplies for many types of birth control such as:

Short-Term Birth Control

These methods are also known as short-acting methods. You must remember to use them on either a daily, weekly or monthly basis. One benefit of using short-term birth control is that these methods are easily reversible, meaning they are a great option if you would like to become pregnant soon.

Please ask your Eastern Iowa Health Center provider to learn more about which short-term option best suits your goals.

Some short-term options include:

  • Condoms (available for FREE at all EIHC locations)
  • Oral contraceptives (the pill)
  • Emergency contraception (Plan B)
  • Depo injection
  • Hormone patch
  • NuvaRing
  • Phexxi
  • Fertility-based awareness methods
  • Abstinence

Long-Term Birth Control (LARCs)

Long-term choices include intrauterine devices (IUDs) and hormonal implants. These contraceptives are long-acting because they last from three to 10 years after insertion (depending on the device). Ask your Eastern Iowa Health Center provider to learn more about options such as:

  • Kyleena
  • Liletta
  • Mirena
  • Nexplanon
  • ParaGard
  • Skyla

Additional Services

  • Pregnancy testing, counseling and education
  • Sexually transmitted disease (STD), testing and treatment
